Jefferson Memorial
Located in the West Potomac Park, the Jefferson Memorial was dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, an American Founding Father and President of the United States. On April 13, 1943, the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s birthday, the Memorial was dedicated; however, due to World War II metal shortages, the statue of Jefferson was not added until 4 years later, when the stately 19 foot, 10,000 pound bronze was added, facing the White House. Interior walls of the Jefferson Memorial are engraved with passages from Jefferson’s writings, including the Declaration of Independence.
