Smithsonian Museums

The Smithsonian Museums are the most visible part of the Smithsonian Institution, comprised of 19 world-class museums and galleries in addition to the National Zoo. Seventeen of the Smithsonian museums are in Washington D.C., eleven centrally located on the National Mall.
The museums that comprise the Smithsonian Institution on the northern side of the National Mall include the National Museum of American History, National Museum of Natural History, National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, the West Building of the National Gallery of Art, and the East Building of the National Gallery of Art. On the southern side of the Mall are the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Air and Space Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Arts and Industries Building, Smithsonian Institution Building, Freer Gallery of Art, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, and the National Museum of African Art. The National Museum of African American History and Culture is scheduled to open in 2015.
