L’Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysees
The famous L’Arc de Triomphe is a landmark in Paris that was constructed to honor those who fought in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars. The names of the French victories and generals are inscribed on it, along with many beautiful friezes and sculptures. Beneath the vault lies the Tom of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
L’Arc de Triomphe stands prominently at 164 feet tall in the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle at the western end of the Champs-Elysees, a prestigious avenue in Paris, also known as “The most beautiful avenue of the world”. The Avenue Champs-Elysees is home to luxury specialty boutiques, cafes, and theatres, in addition to the presidential palace and the historic Grand Palais built in the late 19th Century.
