Coit Tower
Set atop Telegraph Hill, the 210-foot Art Deco inspired Coit Tower was built in 1933 at the request of Lillie Hitchcock Coit, who bequeathed a third of her estate to beautify the city of San Francisco. The unpainted concrete Tower was constructed to resemble a fire hose nozzle, and serves as a monument to the firefighters of San Francisco, with whom Lillie Coit had a special relationship.
A visit to the Coit Tower provides visitors with fantastic views of San Francisco and its most popular attractions. Twenty-six beautifully restored murals were created by a variety of artists and cover the interior walls of the Tower, in addition to a striking statue of Columbus, which stands prominently in the forefront of the Coit Tower.
