Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
Also referred to as Tokyo City Hall, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building serves as Tokyo’s government headquarters. Based in Shinjuku, it stands 799 feet tall, and was designed to resemble a computer chip.
Three structures comprise the Government Building, the tallest of which is the Tokyo Metropolitan Main Building Number 1, which stands 48 stories tall, splitting into two sections at the 33rd floor. The building offers several symbolic elements, including the split, which resembles a Gothic Cathedral. There are two observation decks on the 45th floor of each building offering panoramic views of Tokyo, in addition to cafes and gift shops.
