Rio de Janeiro Attractions
Famous for its winding, narrow streets, the Santa Teresa neighborhood was centered around the Santa Teresa Convent, built in the 1750’s. Considered an artistic hotspot, the town is home to several artists, art studios and galleries. A historic mansion in Santa Teresa has been converted into the Museu da Chaacara do Ceu, a fine arts exhibit including works by Picasso, Matisse, and Monet, to name a few.
In 1896, the Carioca Aqueduct was converted into a viaduct for the Santa Teresa Tramway, a historic tram-line that is still in operation today. The ride starts in the city center, crosses the aqueduct, and moves through picturesque streets; providing magnificent views of Rio.
