Los Angeles Attractions

Griffith Observatory

Since 1935, the bronze domes of the Griffith Observatory are landmarks in the Hollywood Hills, offering unparalleled city views. Long considered one of the most romantic places to visit in Los Angeles, the Observatory is particularly beautiful at night, far above the twinkling city lights and underneath the stars.
Following an extensive $93 million renovation, the Observatory reopened in 2006, showcasing many new exhibits and shows. The central dome houses a 300-seat Planetarium, with a projection show that reveals the stars and planets that are hidden from the naked eye by the city’s lights. Additionally, there are 60 space-related exhibits to visit; including “The Big Picture”, the largest astronomically accurate image ever produced. The new Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater, Wolfgang Puck café, and several Zeiss and solar telescopes are available to guests during their visit to the Griffith Observatory.
