Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War, separating the city into east and west. Built in 1961 by the government to prevent East Germans from escaping West, the Berlin Wall was demolished in 1989 when the borders were reopened.
Most of the wall has been dismantled; however, some parts still stand in place. The most famous stretch of wall is the over 4,000 foot long East Side Gallery located along Muhlenstrasse, and contains 106 paintings.
