Checkpoint Charlie
In 1961, the East German government erected the Berlin Wall. Checkpoint Charlie was a booth located in the heart of Berlin, serving as the only place where foreigners could cross from West to East and back again. It was removed in June of 1990, when German reunification was almost complete.
Today, visitors will see a line of bricks tracing the path where the Berlin Wall once stood, along with a replica of the Checkpoint Charlie booth and sign. The original booth is in the Allied Museum in Zehlendorf.
