Cristo Rei
Inspired by the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, the Cristo Rei was built in 1959 in appreciation to God for having spared Portugal during World War II. The 90 foot figure of Christ opens his arms to Lisbon, with a panoramic view of the city from the 270 foot high pedestal that can be accessed by elevator.
