Monument to the Discoveries

Built on the Tagus River in 1960, the Monument to the Discoveries commemorates the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator. The monument represents a three-sailed ship preparing to depart with sculptures of important historical figures such as King Manuel I, Vasco de Gama, Magellan, and others following Prince Henry the Navigator who is at the bow of the stone vessel.
