St. Mark’s Campanile

Standing 324 feet above St. Mark’s Square, the Campanile is a simple brick structure, topped by an arched belfry that houses five bells, each performing a specific function. Atop the belfry is a brick section decorated with walking lions in honor of St. Mark, and the Goddess of Justice, representing Venice. A golden figure of the angel Gabriel crowns the Campanile tower.
An elevator takes visitors to the top of the Campanile with a magnificent view of Venice and the lagoon from the tower’s observatory. Weather permitting, visitors can see as far as the Alps.
