Peace Hotel
Originally built in 1929 by Victor Sassoon, a British businessman, the Peace Hotel overlooks the Huangpu River and is considered the ultimate symbol of romantic colonial Shanghai. The Art Deco palace was originally part of an office and residential complex known as the Sassoon House and part hotel, the Cathay Hotel.
After a two-year renovation, the Peace Hotel operates as two separate businesses. The North Building, built as Sassoon House is now the Fairmont Peace Hotel, and the South Building was is the Swatch Art Peace Hotel. The two buildings face the Bund, and are divided by the Nanjing Road, the busiest street in Shanghai.
