Munich, Germany Attractions

Hofbrauhaus

Visitors who desire a true taste of Munich will want to visit the world’s most famous beer hall, Hofbrauhaus, with a history dating back more than four centuries. The beer hall was first established by Duke Wilhelm V in 1589 in order to satisfy the tastes of his picky household. When his son took over, he preferred wheat beer, and it became the primary focus of the brewery.
Sales were so successful that brewers had a difficult time keeping up with the demand. In 1610, Hofbrauhaus and the brew produced there was first served to the general public. The beer hall was relocated several times to allow for expansion. In 1958, Hofbrauhaus was rebuilt to its original style to honor Munich’s 800th birthday, where it stands today. Visitors can enjoy traditional German oom-pah music, Bavarian Dance, its fine brew, and a pretzel to go with it.
