St. Peter’s Church

Built in 1180, St. Peter’s Church, or Peterskirche, is the oldest church in the city of Munich that was built on the same site where 8th century monks established a monastery. Originally constructed in the Romanesque style, the wooden Peterskirche was destroyed by fire and reconstructed over the course of 40 years. Near the end of WWII, St. Peter’s was destroyed, reconstructed, and completed in the year 2000.
Visitors to St. Peter’s Church can climb the tall steeple to reach a viewing platform, where unobstructed views of the city can be captured. Color coded circles at the lower platform let visitors know whether it is worth the climb of over 300 steps to see as far as the Alps.
