Cologne Cathedral

The Cologne Cathedral is, by far, the city of Cologne’s most iconic landmark. The eccliasiastic structure was built over the course of 600 years, commencing in 1248 and completed in 1880.
The cathedral’s Gothic architecture is highlighted by two 515 foot high towers, statues, gargoyles, and flying buttresses. The Cologne Cathedral was originally built to house the relics of the Magi, or three Wise Men who visited Jesus in Bethlehem, and remains a popular attraction for visitors to the cathedral. Also inside are the large stained glass windows which cover 110,000 square feet of the cathedral. Visitors also have an opportunity to climb 509 steps up the south tower to enjoy magnificent views of the city.
