Gross St. Martin
The Great St. Martin Church is one of twelve Romanesque churches in Cologne, including a distinct tower whose silhouette is featured in the city’s skyline. Built in the 10th century and prior to the completion of the cathedral, the church was considered one of the most important symbols of Cologne.
The church’s massive tower has four ornately decorated turrets at each corner of the exterior, and is complete with many architectural details. The interior of the church is relatively sparse, having lost most of its decoration during the war. The impressive central nave is worth seeing.
