Thian Hock Keng Temple
Built in 1841, the “Temple of Heavenly Bliss” is one of the oldest Chinese temples in Singapore. When the shoreline came up to the road, the first Chinese sailors landed at the site of the temple and created a shrine to pray to the goddess Ma Cho Po, the Mother of the Heavenly Sages, for a safe journey. The shrine was the first stop for each subsequent boatload of sailors who arrived in Singapore safely.
