Frankfurt, Germany Attractions
Palmengarten Botanical Gardens
The largest garden of its kind in Germany, the historic Palmengarten first opened to visitors in 1871. It hosted Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in 1890, and was a Frankfurt favorite for years. After World War II the Palmengarten was completely renovated and restored, opening to visitors in 1992. Today, botanical exhibits are displayed in both climate controlled and free air greenhouses, which simulate environments ranging from Amazon rainforests to arid deserts. Visitors with a passion for plants can see a dazzling collection of exotic flora, including a dramatic collection of towering palm trees housed in an iron building from the nineteenth century.
