St. Paul’s Church
Rich in religious and political traditions, St. Paul’s was the site of a major address U.S. President Kennedy gave during his 1963 visit to Frankfurt. First constructed in 1789 as a protestant place of worship, St. Paul’s served as the seat for the Frankfurt Parliament, Germany’s first publicly elected government, in the 1840s. Much of the work that went into drafting the constitution for the unification of German states took place in the church. Today, reconstructed St. Paul’s is home to many of Frankfurt’s most prestigious displays and events, including the Peace Prize of the German book trade which is awarded during the city’s annual Book Fair.
