The Romerberg
The main square in Frankfurt’s Old Town, the Romerberg dates back to the twelfth century, when merchants from throughout Europe would gather to buy, sell and trade. At the center of the Romerberg stands the statue of justice, dedicated in 1543. The square is rich in history, the site where Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were crowned, and hosted tournaments, festivals, and even executions. Today’s Romerberg features a row of half-timbered framed houses along its eastern perimeter, reconstructed in 1986 according to historic plans.
