Altes Rathaus

Constructed during the 16th century on the site of Leipzig’s Renaissance Market, the Altes Rathaus is the home of the Museum of City History, founded in 1909. The Stadtgeschichtliches is actually a unified group of different historical museums, and its collections tell the story of the city, beginning in the Middle Ages, through more than 1,200 different exhibits. The building itself is acknowledged as one of Germany’s most attractive examples of Renaissance architecture, and its old council chamber is considered the single most beautiful room in Leipzig.
