Leipzig Zoo

Zoo lovers will find the Leipzig Zoo a cut above most zoos because of the rarity of many of its animals. Founded in 1878, the Leipzig Zoo takes an active role in breeding so that many of its rare species can avoid extinction. It has bred thousands of lions and hundreds of Siberian Tigers. The zoo is transitioning into six different themese areas. Visitors can see more than 500 species in these different environments, many of which are linked to continents. A massive savannah has been recreated in the African area, which replicates many elements of the ecosystem and is home to the zoo’s giraffe’s, onyxes and zebras.
