Castillo de Chapultepec
The 18th century Castillo de Chapultepec palace is known for its impressive gardens, and served as the home of the Mexican President through 1939. The site of the palace was once occupied by a fortress, which dates back to the Aztec; although the present palace was not built until much later.
In 2004, archaeologists discovered an ancient Teotihuacan settlement behind the landmark, and are still uncovering artifacts that supports the belief that the Teotihuacan culture influenced Mexico City much earlier than was previously believed, between 300 and 600 A.D. The palace currently houses the famous MuseoNacional de Historia.
