The Belvedere is one of several beautiful museum complex’s in Vienna. Two baroque palaces face one another on a sloping hill amidst a formal French garden filled with fountains, statues, and cascades.
The Unteres Belvedere, or lower Belvedere, was built in 1716, as the primary living quarters for Prince Eugene of Savoy. Visitors can wander through many of the Palace rooms and enjoy the fine collection of baroque paintings and sculpture. The Oberes Belvedere, or upper Belvedere, is at the top of the slope, and during its time, contained reception and banquet halls. Today, it currently houses the SammlungOsterreichishcherKunst, one of the top museums in Vienna, displaying artwork from the 19th and 20th centuries.
