Emigration Museum Ballinstadt
1850-1938, the years when European emigrants came to Hamburg to board ships for the new world. These are the years reflected in the exhibits of the BallinStadt Emigration Museum. On Hamburg’s Veddel Island, the century-old emigration halls have been reborn as a museum named in honor of Albert Ballin, former president of the shipping line Hapag, which transported hundreds of thousands of European emigrants across the Atlantic. The emigration halls originally sprawled across six acres on the Hamburg waterfront. Today’s museum complex includes a research center, a restaurant, and guided tours.
