Confucius Temple
The Confucius Temple in Nanjing is along the banks of the Qin Huai River. It has been reconstructed a number of times, and today’s complex reflects the architectural style of the Qing and Ming dynasties. The temple is actually a collection of buildings. Inside one of them, the Dacheng Hall, is China’s largest statue of Confucius. There are also dozens of elaborate panels created with silver, gold, and jade, which portray the life of Confucius, a philosopher who taught more than 2,500 years ago. The temple is located south of the center of Nanjing, and after the restorations of 1984, is now surrounded by shops, boutiques and restaurants.
