Linggu Temple
The Linggu Temple pays tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the 1929 War of Northern Expedition. Surrounded by an expansive park, the Linggu Temple pagoda is nine stories tall, and has been inscribed with selections of speeches from Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-Shek. The temple itself, with its origins in the fourteenth century, was constructed entirely from brick and does not contain any wood. Known as Wuliang Hall, the architecturally complex building does not contain any beams. The Linggu Temple is considered one of the world’s finest Buddhist shrines. Surrounded by trees and gardens, it once served as a place of worship where as many as thousand monks took part. Today, the temple includes one of China’s leading vegetarian restaurants, Shensong House.
