Nanjing, China Attractions

Mochou Lake

Located on the western side of Nanjing, Mochou Lake was formed from the waters of the Yangtze River. It became a park in 1929. Visitors to the lake, surrounded by gardens and trees, can explore a number of attractions, including the Shengi Pavilion. The Shengi Pavilion houses a collection of manuscripts and artwork. Yujin Hall, which is divided by a lily pond, is the former home of Mochou, a tragic figure who drowned herself in the lake. A statue of Mochou carved from white marble stands at the center of this pond. Mochou Lake hosts a number of events, including an annual dragon boat race. Visitors can tour the lake by boat, which with blossoming crabapple trees, is particularly scenic in the spring.
