Xuanwu Lake
Xuanwu Lake takes its name from a mythical black dragon said to prowl its waters. The lake is situated at the foot of Mount Zhongshan and has five islands: Huan Isle, Ying Isle, Liang Isle, Cui Isle and Ling Isle. Willow trees are abundant on Huan Isle and cherry trees grow on Ying Isle. An annual flower show on Liang Isle features a massive exhibit of chrysanthemums. Xuanwu Lake is in the north central area of Nanjing, close to the city’s main railway station and the Ji Ming Temple. Surrounding the park, which is home to the lake, is the historic Ming City Wall.
