Altes Schloss

The Altes Schloss, or the old castle, stands in the center of Stuttgart. Rich in history, the castle’s origins stretch back to the tenth century. Later, it was the home of the counts of Wurttemberg. Renovations in the seventeenth century gave the castle a Renaissance appearance. Former kings are buried in the castle church. Today, the Altes Schloss houses the Wurttemberg State Museum, or the Landesmuseum, where there is an extensive display of medieval art. Other collections at the Altes Schloss include musical instruments, antiquities, a globe from 1493, an 11 digit calculator from 1774, clocks, and special exhibitions.
