Birkenkopf
The Birkenkopf is a war memorial, a hill literally built from the rubble of Stuttgart created by the bombing raids of Word War II. The Birkenkopf is more than 1,500 feet high and was constructed with debris from 53 bombing raids. Crowing the hill are displays constructed from recognizable pieces of buildings which were destroyed and a large cross of steel. It took four years to build the Birkenkopf, and today, visitors who hike to the summit are rewarded with magnificent views of the city and the surrounding countryside, including the Black Forest and the lowlands of Wurttemburg.
