Stuttgart, Germany Attractions

In the center of Stuttgart is the Schlossplatz, the city’s largest square. It is also the emotional heart of the city, where 40,000 fans gathered during the 2006 World Cup Finals to watch the matches on giant video displays. The Schlossplatz hosts concerts, children’s fairs, festivals, an annual Christmas market, and, during the winter months, an ice skating rink. It is also the home of Stuttgart’s New Castle, which opened in 1807. The late Baroque style New Castle, which was once the home of the kings of Wurttemberg, is now the home of the Baden-Wurttemberg State Parliament. The building houses government offices, and is not regularly open to the public.
