Stuttgart Television Tower

The Stuttgart Television Tower pioneered the use of concrete for constructing tall towers. When it was opened in 1956, reactions to the 1,585 foot tall tower were mixed, but over the years, the Stuttgart Television Tower has earned a position as one of the city’s landmarks. Visitors who take in the views from one of the two observation decks can look beyond the city to nearby vineyards and Germany’s Black Forest. Located on a hill in the southern part of Stuttgart, the tower is open from 9:00am until 11:00 pm. Designed by a Stuttgart engineer, the tower cost 4.2 million marks to build. This investment was paid back by admission fees to the observation decks in just five years.
