Erawan Shrine

The Erawan is a Hindu Shrine in Bangkok, which stands in the heart of downtown Bangkok, and was built in 1956 to appease the supposed evil forces that were taking the lives of construction workers and causing other calamities in the construction of a nearby hotel.
The apparent effectiveness of the monument made the shrine one of the most revered spots in Thailand. It consists of the four-faced Hindu god Brahma, named Than Tao Mahaprom, or PhraPhrom, The shrine was named Erawan after India’s legendary three-headed elephant. Every day, both Thai and foreigners pray at the shrine to seek blessings, fulfillment of dreams, and success in personal lives and careers.
