The Grand Palace and WatPhraKaew
The spectacular Grand Palace is, without a doubt, Bangkok’s most famous landmark. Built in 1782, the Palace was home of the Thai King, the Royal court, and the administrative seat of government for 150 years. Today, the complex remains the spiritual heart of the Thai Kingdom, and is still used to mark all kinds of ceremonies.
Within the complex of the Grand Palace are several buildings, including the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, or WatPhraKaew, that dates back to the 14th century. Robes of the Buddha are changed with the seasons by the King of Thailand, which is an important ritual that is marked on the Buddhist calendar.
