A visit to the spa is an opportunity to relax and unwind from the stresses of daily life. However, if you are not aware of common spa etiquette, the visit can be stressful in its own way. To make the most of your spa vacation, use these tips.

Try and stay at least three nights to get the rest and renewal benefits of a spa vacation. On the day of your treatment, try to refrain from being in the sun and avoid alcohol. Try not to eat for at least an hour before any type of treatment and drink plenty of water before and afterward.

Hydration is important to a pleasing and beneficial spa experience. Massage and many other body treatments produce internal detoxification. Drinking plenty of water will help flush those toxins out. Fitness classes and visits to the sauna or the steam room can also cause dehydration.

Pack the appropriate attire. Bring athletic shoes and comfortable sportswear for exercise classes, boots and a sun visor or hat for hiking and a swimsuit for the Jacuzzi or pool. Be sure to leave all jewelry and valuables in the hotel or resort's safe as most spas will not be held liable for any loss of property. To avoid any skin irritation from body treatments, if you need to shave, do so at least two hours prior to your scheduled appointment.
